Professional Lawn Care from a Team of Experts

Nixa Lawn Service in Springfield, MO, has provided exceptional lawn care to the surrounding area since 2000. Our team can help your home or business with lawn care, landscaping, irrigation, fertilization, landscape lighting, tree services, water features, snow removal, and more. Read below to learn more about the services we provide.

Lawn Mowing

Lawn care is our specialty. We offer weekly lawn mowing using high-quality, commercial lawn equipment. Plus, our blades are sharpened two to three times a week to provide a superior cut that is both crisp and clean. The service includes edging all sidewalks and driveways as well as trimming around all of the obstacles on your lawn. To finish the job, we blow the grass off all hard surfaces and out of your landscape beds.

Leaf Removal

Do you dread removing leaves from your lawn in the fall? If you give Nixa Lawn Service a call, we would be happy to sweep away those leaves using a combination of commercial leaf blowers (to blow leaves out of landscape beds and the corners of your lawn) and commercial lawn mowers (to vacuum up the leaves). Finally, we will haul all the leaves away so that you don’t have to dispose of them yourself. So sit back, relax, and watch those pesky leaves disappear.

Aerating

During aeration, we use a commercial core aerator to pull plugs of soil out of your lawn. This opens up air spaces in the soil, so that water, fertilizer, and air can penetrate the ground. This is especially important in areas with significant soil compaction issues, like the Ozarks, where grassroots often struggle to grow strong and deep. Compacted soil is especially common in new lawns that have been put down in the last ten years or so because the heavy construction equipment and delivery trucks have packed down the soil. To combat this problem, aerate your lawn at least once a year (but preferably twice). When we aerate your lawn, we will also apply lime, because this is the best time to get it deep into the soil.

Overseeding

Overseeding typically occurs in the fall, after the hot and droughty summer has taken its toll. Our overseeding program begins with aeration to open and loosen the soil, preparing it for the seeds. If necessary, we will also remove thatch. Then, we plant high-quality grass seeds that have been selected and grown for our area. The seeds aren’t simply scattered or thrown over the ground; instead, we use a commercial seed planter to work the seeds down into the soil for better germination rates. Once the seeds have been planted, they must be kept wet for two weeks. Then, we taper off watering until the first frost occurs.

Aerating Services

A beautiful lawn now does not make a beautiful lawn in the future. Grass blades can look lush and green on the surface while struggling to get the nutrients they need at the root. Nourishing grassroots is just as important to lawn care as trimming and grooming those delicate green blades. Aerating services, when timed properly, make your lawn healthier without sacrificing any of its aesthetic value. You can have a thick, soft grass lawn now and long into the future if you take care of it with aerating services.

What Is Aerating?

Aerating services allow your grassroots to get the nutrients they need by perforating the soil with holes. This loosens the soil and allows air, water, and other nutrients to seep down through the soil and into the grassroots. Many lawns suffer from soil compaction due to heavy foot traffic by playing children, an initial layer of sod that never mixed with the natural soil, or dry weather. The density of compacted soil can suffocate your grass and cause it to thin and die off.

Why Should You Aerate Your Lawn?

Some people shy away from aerating services because they worry about the holes in the lawn, but proper aeration will only take out a small cylinder of grass and soil known as a plug. These plugs measure between 2 to 3 inches in depth and 0.5 to 0.75 inches in diameter. Proper aeration spaces out these plugs every 3 inches. Due to their small size and the overall density of the soil, these holes are hardly noticeable, but they work wonders for your lawn.

Benefits of Aerating

When you employ Nixa Lawn Service to aerate your lawn during your routine lawn care, you get a few immediate and long-term benefits. The looser soil allows healthy roots to take up more space, absorb more nutrients, and grow denser. The soil also absorbs more water, which reduces water runoff. The increased water in the soil helps your lawn survive the heat and drought. Aeration also keeps thatch to a minimum and decreases the likelihood of disease.

Choose Aerating Services from Nixa Lawn Care

Full-service landscaping services are not complete without aerating services. They help your grass breathe and give your lawn a beautiful, healthy, and manicured look for the entire season. If you have problems with water runoff, diseased grass, and thatch buildup, then you should consider lawn aeration. Contact Nixa Lawn Service today to get started on the right landscaping projects for your lawn.

Fertilization

Fertilization Lawn Care Springfield, MO

The grass doesn’t have to be greener on the other side of the fence. If you want the greenest yard on the block, add fertilizer to your lawn care regimen. For best results, check out Nixa Lawn Service’s yearlong fertilization program that focuses on maintaining a bright green color, controlling and preventing broadleaf weeds, and strengthening your lawn. With our help, your lawn will be able to withstand summer stress, long winters, and everything in between.

Frequent trims, sharp mower blades, and lots of water to drink will help your yard stay healthy, but if you want it to thrive, you need to feed it with fertilizer. Soil is often deficient in micronutrients and organisms, so we use a product called Turf Formula that infuses these beneficial ingredients into your lawn. Many local golf courses and farmers use this same product in their lawn care regimen and have experienced great results, so you can feel confident that your lawn is receiving excellent fertilization. Our 6-step fertilization program, combined with Turf Formula, is perfect for stubborn lawns.

Our 6-Step Fertilization Program for Fescue and Bluegrass

1

Early Spring Application.

The first step of the fertilization program, which is applied early in the season, will give your lawn a beautiful green color and prevent annual grassy weeds like crabgrass and foxtail.

2

Late Spring Application.

The second step also controls and prevents annual grassy weeds, but it also keeps your lawn green and healthy. During this step, we control dandelions, clover, and other broadleaf weeds as needed.

3

Grub Control.

As you’ve surely guessed from the name, the third step prevents grub infestation all season long.

4

Summer Application.

The fourth step, applied during the summertime, will help your lawn maintain its spring color throughout the summer. During this step, we also spot treat broadleaf weeds as needed.

5

Fall Application.

After the harsh, hot, and dehydrating days of summer, the fifth step of our fertilization lawn care program rebuilds turf that has been damaged from summer stress. Again, we control broadleaf weeds as needed.

6

Winterizer.

The final step, applied during the winter, builds a large food reserve for spring and early summer. This will ensure that your yard turns green early in the spring, boasts better-than-normal color, and has excellent roots and tillers. During this step, we also apply liquid lime.

After we apply these six fertilizing applications over the course of twelve months, your lawn will be brighter, greener, and free of weeds and pests. Plus, each time we apply another step, we will be able to assess your lawn and adjust our plan as needed. In addition to our 6-step program, we also offer small-scale fertilization programs that require just three applications or less to control weeds and yield a healthier lawn.

Irrigation

Proper irrigation is essential to the health and beauty of your lawn. Too little water can inhibit root growth and lead to dry, yellow patches. Too much water can encourage weeds, weaken the root system, and promote the growth of fungus, root rot, and other diseases. To maintain a healthy middle ground – hydrating your lawn without overwhelming it – contact Nixa Lawn Service. We are a full-service irrigation contractor and can help you with the installation of an irrigation system as well as repairs, audits, and backflow inspections.

Irrigation System Installation

Looking to install a new irrigation system? If you contact Nixa Lawn Service, a certified designer will plan a custom irrigation system to fit the unique layout of your lawn. We install smart controllers and weather sensors on every job for your convenience. Unlike some of our competitors, Nixa Lawn Service will fully clean up your lawn afterward. Although the installation of an irrigation system will temporarily damage your lawn, we will do our best to minimize the damage, so that in just a few weeks, it will look like we were never there.

Backflow Inspection & Service

Most cities in southwest Missouri require an annual test of backflow devices to ensure that they are working properly. If you neglect to test your device, not only could the government turn off your water, but you will also risk contaminating your drinking water with bacteria and lawn chemicals. At Nixa Lawn Service, we have a certified backflow tester on staff who can inspect and service your backflow valve.

Beyond scheduling your annual inspection, remember to shut off your irrigation system in the winter and blow the water out of all the lines to avoid bursting the pipes. This quick preventative maintenance could help you avoid costly repairs.

Repair Service

As time goes by, the elements may take a toll on your irrigation system. Hard water can clog valves and create leaks, old or outdated components will eventually break down, and power surges or lightning strikes can fry controllers and electronic valves. Whatever the problem may be, give Nixa Lawn Service a call when your irrigation system malfunctions. We can diagnose and repair a variety of issues, including all of the following:

  • Clogged sprinklers
  • Leaking sprinklers and valves
  • Obstructed sprinklers
  • Electronic issues
  • Missing nozzles
  • Overspray onto sidewalks, streets, or buildings
  • Irrigation system design issues
  • Pipe leaks or breaks

Audits at Nixa Lawn Service

If you have forgotten who originally installed your aging irrigation system or you have purchased a new house with an old irrigation system, contact Nixa Lawn Service to schedule an audit. Because irrigation systems are not regulated by building codes or standards, many older systems are not properly installed. We can audit your irrigation system and implement needed changes to ensure that it is as efficient and effective as possible. Most audits include the installation of a smart weather sensor, which will monitor temperature and rainfall so that your lawn can be watered efficiently. This will allow you to conserve water and save money while still maintaining a lovely lawn.

Lawn Mowing

Very little in lawn care matters as much as lawn mowing. An integral part of lawn service, lawn mowing is the difference between a lawn and an unkempt field in your front yard. Even if you have beautiful grass, if it isn’t mowed regularly it will not only look bad but also become unhealthy. The benefits of proper lawn mowing are numerous, and these benefits only increase when you hire a professional lawn care service to mow your lawn for you.

Benefits of Lawn Mowing

Aside from separating your lawn from the wilderness from which it came, lawn mowing has a lot of health benefits for your grass. When you mow your lawn regularly, you actually make your grass stronger. Keeping your lawn at 3 inches allows the healthiest grass blades to flourish. When your lawn stays evenly cut, light and other nutrients are distributed across the lawn. This allows grass blades to grow consistently.

Mulching

Lawn mowing adds nutrients to grass through more than just even distribution. The shorter blades of grass trimming contain a lot of nutrients perfect for your lawn. The longer a grass blade grows, the weaker and less dense in nutrients it becomes. So the more often you mow your lawn, the more often you return those nutrients to the soil, keeping your grass thick and healthy. You can mulch every time you mow, so your lawn will only become more and more healthy after every trimming.

Why Get Your Lawn Professionally Mowed?

When you hire a professional lawn care and landscaping company to take care of your grass, you get seasoned professionals who know exactly what they are doing. Mowing takes up a lot of time. With sweltering Missouri summers, you probably can think of all kinds of more enjoyable things to do with your afternoon than spend them sweating behind a lawnmower. If you wish to do anything more with your lawn, then you already have a reliable team you are comfortable with, and you don’t even have to buy any landscaping or lawn mowing equipment.

Leaf Removal

Leaf Removal Services Springfield, MO

Have you ever watched a movie or seen a TV show in which the characters joyfully rake leaves? They talk and laugh as they rake, build colorful heaps of leaves, and jump into the piles when they’re finished, making it look so fun and relaxing.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I decide to rake leaves, my experience never matches that fictional image. The chore seems to take hours and hours, and within thirty minutes, I have blisters on my hands. Sure, jumping in the piles of leaves can be fun, especially for kids and dogs, but inevitably the piles of leaves will scatter across your yard and need raked up again. Because leaf removal can be such a hassle, consider contacting Nixa Lawn Service about leaf removal services.

The Hassle of Leaf Removal

Overall, leaf removal is necessary for the health and appearance of your yard. It keeps your yard neat and tidy, and a heavy layer of leaves can smother your grass and create a breeding ground for pests and fungi. Unfortunately, leaf removal can be a hassle.

If your yard is large or you have a lot of trees, leaf removal can take extra time and effort. Although there are products available to speed up the process (leaf blowers, vacuums, lawn mower attachments), most people stick with time-intensive rakes.

Of course, once you’ve gathered all the leaves together, there’s the question of where you will take them. If you compost, your bin will benefit from the nutrients provided by the leaves, and if you have a shredder, you can mash up the leaves and use them as protective mulch in your garden. Or if a wooded area borders your yard or there is a river or stream nearby, you can usually dispose of them there. However, most people don’t have any of these options available. Will you have to call a company to carry the leaves away for you? Will you have to haul them into your car and drive them somewhere? What a hassle!

Instead of breaking your back or blistering your hands trying to rake up leaves this autumn, call Nixa Lawn Service. We offer leaf removal services that can quickly and efficiently clear away the leaves on your lawn.

Leaf Removal Services at Nixa Lawn Care

Instead of dreading the chore of leaf removal every year or purchasing expensive equipment to make the task easier, consider contacting Nixa Lawn Service about leaf removal services. We can blow the leaves out of delicate and hard-to-reach areas like gardens, landscaping beds, patios, and the corners of the yard, and then we will use commercial lawn mowers to vacuum up all the leaves. Afterward, we won’t burden you with piles or bags of leaves. Instead, we will haul the leaves into our truck and dispose of them for you, leaving you with a gorgeous, green, uncovered lawn.

We recommend that you wait until the trees in your yard have shed nearly all of their leaves before scheduling leaf removal services. That way, the task can be finished in one day. Once you decide on a perfect day, all you need to do is give us a call and we’ll drive by, herd up the leaves, and shepherd them off for disposal. You’ll love seeing your lawn bare and beautiful without having to lift a finger!
