A Few Ways to Elevate Your Property This Spring
In a previous blog post, we discussed how to prepare your lawn for spring. In addition to fertilizing your lawn, removing weeds, and raking leaves, there are some other things you can do as spring approaches. Use these tips from Nixa Lawn Service to give your yard a spring tune-up and ensure your lawn flourishes.
Instead of only mowing once a week, mow every five days for the first six weeks of spring, depending on the weather, for a thicker, fuller lawn. You don’t want to let the grass grow too high and then suddenly cut it, otherwise, the roots can’t properly reproduce. It’s best to mow your lawn to a height of 2.5 to 3.5 inches. The more often you mow, the stronger your grass becomes, which makes it less sensitive to heat and drought conditions.
Reseed Bare Patches
Has winter left your yard with bare patches? If so, here’s what you can do. To reseed the patches, first, loosen the surface to a depth of 2 to 4 inches. Use the back of a rake to level the soil. Next, spread grass seed and compost or fertilizer over the bare spots. Compress the surface with the rake’s flat end and then water as needed.
Try arranging your new plantings in layers, rather than straight rows, to create visual interest. Low plants can go in the front, medium-sized in the middle, and tall plants in the back. Additionally, you can position your perennials in odd numbers (groups of three or five) for landscape unity and a natural, colorful drift. Once your plants are in the ground, water them thoroughly.
Whether it’s adding a fountain, an interesting sculpture, a comfortable sitting area, or building archways for your garden, take some time to enhance your landscape this spring. These are all great focal points that will make a big impression on your family, your neighbors, and your guests. Consider including a birdbath to attract colorful birds when spring arrives.
