Professional Landscaping in Springfield, MO

Some landscapes are naturally blessed with beauty – green grass, lush trees, bountiful shrubs, wildflowers – while others are not. Although this is the way of the world, you can easily enhance a lackluster landscape by modifying the land, planting trees and shrubs, or adding useful and entertaining elements like patios, lighting, and outdoor kitchens. If you would like to jazz up your property’s landscape, contact Nixa Lawn Service today.

Planting

Whether you need a single tree planted or a full garden refurbished, Nixa Lawn Service can help. Our trained landscaping staff selects fresh plants from local nurseries, and we enjoy using native plants when possible, since they don’t require as much maintenance and are more likely to thrive. All of our plants come with a one-year guarantee (so long as you water them), and we would be happy to teach you how to properly care for your new plants.

Trimming

If your bushes have gotten out of hand or your trees are scratching at your windows, we can help. In addition to improving the aesthetics of your landscape, trimming your plants can benefit their health by fostering new growth, building a more solid structure, and preventing overcrowding. At Nixa Lawn Service, we only use sharp, high-quality hedge clippers to ensure that the cuts are crisp and will not tear the plants’ stems or leaves. In addition, we carefully trim down plants to preserve their health and build a stronger structure.

Mulching

Adding mulch to your landscaping beds will improve their appearance, prevent weeds, insulate the soil, and protect the plants’ root systems. For best results, you will need to mulch once or twice a year using high-quality mulch. Schedule mulching for late spring or early summer. Although mulch can come from many sources, we recommend bark mulch and hardwood mulch purchased from saw mills, which can be dyed or left raw.

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls, which secure soil between two different elevations (often in areas with undesirable slopes), should always be installed by professionals for safety’s sake. At Nixa Lawn Service, we use blocks from Belgard, Rockwood, Pavestone, Fossil Stone, and Mid-West Block & Brick as well as natural stones. These professional bricks are made using a different standard than those found at your local home supply store. They are made of superior concrete and stone, so they will last longer without deteriorating, cracking, or fading.

Retaining walls must be carefully designed and installed to withstand the pressure of the soil, which is why we always follow manufacturers’ specifications, making sure to backfill with gravel (not soil) and install a geogrid when necessary. In addition, we always consider drainage to be sure that water is diverted around the wall and drains are buried at the wall’s base.

Paver Patios

Without high-quality pavers that are well positioned and secured, a paver patio will fall apart. At Nixa Lawn Service, we build paver patios using pavers from Belgard, Pavestone, and Mid-West Block & Brick in addition to natural stones. Since the base of the patio can make or break the project, we spend time carefully constructing it for security and durability. Then, we compact the sub-base and base to be sure that they won’t settle after the project is completed. After that, we use polymeric sand from Techniseal to fill the gaps between the stones. It will not wash out, and it will prevent weeds and bugs from burrowing in the sand. In southern Missouri, polymeric sand lasts about five years before needing to be refreshed. We also use wet, dry, and color-enhancing finishes from Techniseal to protect our paver patios.

Fireplaces and Fire Pits

Outdoor fireplaces are useful year round, providing a place to socialize, share stories, roast marshmallows, burn wood, and more. At Nixa Lawn Service, using stone or paving blocks, we can build gas or wood-burning fireplaces. We can also construct elevated or sunken fire pits. Both are perfect for parties, family gatherings, or solitary relaxation time. To make better culinary use of your fireplace, consider adding a smoker or pizza oven to it.

Outdoor Kitchens

Outdoor kitchens have become increasingly popular in recent years. Some are quite simple, perhaps including a permanent grill or a Big Green Egg stand, while others go all out, incorporating sinks, multiple grills, a bar area, or even a refrigerator. When it comes to outdoor kitchens, the sky is the limit. Some outdoor kitchen are built under free-standing structures, while others are attached to the house. No matter which products and features you would like to include, Nixa Lawn Service can help make your dream a reality.

Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting offers numerous benefits. It provides security whether you’re at home or away, and it welcomes guests to your property with a lovely glow. It can highlight the best features of your home and landscape and create a wonderful ambiance when you sit outside on warm nights. At Nixa Lawn Service, we only use the finest fixtures from FX Luminaire on our lighting installations, including zoning and dimming systems. If you’re not sure where to start with landscape lighting, let us light the way!

Water Features

Water features can muffle undesired sounds, create a focal point in your landscape design, and add a sense of peace and tranquility to your yard. We can install a variety of water features, from conventional ponds and streams (which can include fish and frogs) to maintenance-free fountains and safe pondless waterfalls. In addition, we can improve your water feature’s convenience by adding an automatic fill feature or a professional filter. Finally, we can also help you maintain existing water features to keep them running for years to come.

Experienced Landscape Lighting in Springfield, MO

In a perfect world, the moon would gently and impeccably illuminate the earth each night. It would lovingly illuminate walkways so that no one would trip, and brighten our gardens and patios so that no one would have to squint across a table or talk into the darkness. So children could play without hurting themselves, it would bounce light off sprinklers, steps, and rocks. In this perfect world, lit with a cinematographer’s eye, there wouldn’t be any need for landscape lighting. Unfortunately, that’s not the world we live in.

In the real world, if you want your yard to be as safe, functional, and magical as possible, you will need to strategically plot your landscape lighting to both brighten the beautiful and expose the dangerous.

Research

First, research the three basic types of landscape lighting to decide what will work best for your yard: overall lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting. Overall lighting will be useful if you have a patio, deck, or pool because it lights up the entire space. It is used more for practicality than ambiance. Task lighting, on the other hand, is used to light specific areas like stairs or intimate patio space. And finally, accent lighting is used mostly for aesthetic purposes, to focus the eye on a certain feature. For example, you might use accent lighting to show off a sculpture or draw attention to a tree.

Design

Next, think about the design. Like landscaping, landscape lighting is an art. If you are not sure where to place your lights, talk with the landscape lighting professionals at Nixa Lawn Service. We can help you decide which areas need lighting for safety purposes and which could benefit from artistic, accent lighting. Then, we can advise you on the type of lighting fixtures you might use and how bright the lights should be. Landscape lighting should be soft and glowing, so avoid pointing lights toward windows or using high-wattage bulbs. For extra convenience and energy-efficiency, consider using dimmers or motion sensors as well.

Installation

After you decide on your design, you will need to hire your lighting professionals. If you’ve chosen a very simple lighting fixture, you might be able to install it yourself, but for more complex landscape lighting and expert tips, contact Nixa Lawn Service. If your landscape lighting is properly installed, you won’t need to worry about maintenance or upkeep. Simply keep the lighting fixtures clear of leaves and debris, and remember to replace burned-out bulbs as soon as you notice them.

Landscape lighting is an integral part of a well-designed yard. Although you should start with basic fixtures to light your pathways, entryways, and steps, the magic happens when you further enhance your yard with decorative, enchanting lights that show off special features or charmingly illuminate your deck or patio. Never underestimate the power of well-placed lights. With a few lights and a touch of inspiration, you can have the yard of your dreams.

The Benefits of a Paver Patio

Choosing a paver patio for your home comes with a set of unique benefits. Choosing Nixa Lawn Service to install it for you does, too. Keep reading to find out more about how we can make you the envy of your neighborhood.

Strength and Durability

The most obvious benefit of using outdoor paving is the durability that it provides. Paving stones and concrete paving can withstand a lot more wear and tear than wood decking – and for much longer. Outdoor paving isn’t going to stain or show much wear over time.

Not only that, but paving is also versatile. Stone and concrete paving can be shaped to your specifications, and if you do end up with a damaged or broken piece or section, it’s easily replaced with identical material.

Patios made from stone or concrete also require a lot less maintenance than a wood deck, meaning less work for you to keep things clean. Depending on your taste and the amount of space you have available, the options for simple paver patios are endless.

Whether you want a natural stone look, a neat and uniform brick look, or low-profile and subtle concrete, we can help you achieve it.
